Three forms of magnesium, 200mg of the actual mineral, and the milligram split for each form printed below in text you can read. Most labels only tell you the compound weight.
Magnesium is never sold on its own. It is bonded to something, and that something has weight. A capsule containing 1,369mg of magnesium compounds does not contain 1,369mg of magnesium. It contains 200mg of magnesium and 1,169mg of the things it is attached to.
That gap is where the whole category does its work. Here is ours, with nothing rounded.
Every competitor we measured either buries this split inside a proprietary blend, reports a total with no breakdown, or shows no Supplement Facts panel at all.
| Form | Elemental | Why it is in here |
|---|---|---|
| Magnesium bisglycinate | 120 mg | Bonded to two glycine molecules. The form most associated with winding down, and the gentlest on digestion. |
| Magnesium citrate | 50 mg | Well absorbed and the reason regularity tends to improve. Kept deliberately modest so it stays gentle. |
| Magnesium malate | 30 mg | Bonded to malic acid, which sits in the same energy pathway magnesium feeds. |
| Magnesium oxide | 0 mg | Cheap and rich in magnesium by weight, but poorly absorbed. It is the reason most magnesium has a reputation. |
Roughly half of adults take in less magnesium than the estimated requirement, which is a statistic, not a diagnosis. A blood test is close to useless here because most of your magnesium is not in your blood, it is in bone and inside cells.
So the honest answer is that nobody can tell you from a webpage. What follows is not a test. It is the list of things people tend to describe before they find out they were low.
Three or more sounds like you. That is worth a real dose for a month. Fewer than that, and food is probably doing the job. We would rather you kept your $32.
Every figure below was read off a live product page in August 2026. Brands are unnamed on purpose. You can check any of them yourself in about a minute, which is the entire point.

We are not the cheapest and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The citrate powder in the last column is genuinely good value, and if plain citrate agrees with your stomach you should buy it. What you are paying us for is a bisglycinate-led formula with no oxide and a split you can audit. Against the gummy in column two, the comparison is less complicated.
Start with one capsule, not three. Take it after dinner for three nights. If that sits fine, go to two for three nights, then three. Magnesium is one of the few supplements where ramping matters, because going straight to a full dose is how people end up deciding magnesium does not agree with them.
Evening, with food. Food slows it down, which is what you want.
Give it two weeks before you judge it. If you have been genuinely low for years, this is a refill rather than a switch. Most of what people notice first is the morning, not the night.
Arithmetic. Bisglycinate is only about 14% magnesium by weight, so 200mg of elemental magnesium needs roughly 1,369mg of compound across the three forms. That does not fit in one capsule. Any single-capsule product is either using a smaller dose or a form that packs more magnesium per milligram, which in practice usually means oxide.
Less likely than most, but it is not impossible and we are not going to promise otherwise. The form most associated with that effect is oxide, which is not in here. Citrate can do it at higher amounts, which is why the citrate portion is held to 50mg rather than being the base of the formula. Ramp up as described above and it is rarely an issue.
Better than oxide, which is well established. Beyond that we are not going to give you a number. You will see brands claim their form is absorbed "up to 90%" or "22 times better." We went looking for the study behind those figures and could not find it. So we are leaving it out rather than repeating it.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist, genuinely. Magnesium can interfere with the absorption of some antibiotics and thyroid medication, usually solved by spacing them a few hours apart. If you have reduced kidney function, do not start a magnesium supplement without medical advice.
No. This is magnesium and the compounds it is bonded to. Nothing else.
Send it back within 60 days and we refund it, opened bottles included. We have seen guarantees that void the moment you open the second bottle, which is a strange way to say you believe in something.
Hypromellose, which is a plant-based capsule shell. No magnesium stearate, no rice flour filler, no dyes. The full Supplement Facts panel is printed as text on this page rather than as an image, so you can select it, search it, and compare it.
